    Hennepin County Library (HCL) seeks a Diversity and Inclusion Manager to manage, facilitate, support, lead and coach individuals and work units within the library in delivering on the Library's promises to provide library services that reflect and respond to the communities we serve and to support staff in meeting community and patron needs by valuing diversity and inclusion.


    As the Library re-frames our existing 2011-2025 strategic plan, diversity, inclusion and racial equity are key strategic focus areas over the next five years. HCL is in the process of reviewing proposals for a consultant to assist leadership and staff in building a shared vision and developing a three-year action plan. The Diversity and Inclusion manager will be part of this planning work and is responsible for implementing the resulting plan.


    The ideal candidate is committed to furthering diversity, inclusion and racial equity work in the HCL system and building bridges between the work of others and the expertise they bring. They are patient and persistent, committed to libraries, library staff and the communities we serve. They work independently but understand and value group process and co-creation. They are courageous, persisting through challenging conversations while balancing their roles as internal expert, thought-leader and capacity-builder. This position is responsible for developing sustainable systems and staff support to increase HCL's internal and external-facing commitment to diversity, inclusion and racial equity at all levels of the organization.


    The position will be a part of the Strategic Services Division of the Hennepin County Library, a small division that provides internal consulting services to staff, supervisors and managers in key areas of strategic importance to the library system in order to provide excellent service to our communities, patrons, staff and stakeholders. Team members in this division act as subject matter experts in consulting, facilitating, leading group processes and planning across all levels and divisions of the organization. Individuals in this division support strengthening our change management practices, furthering innovation, advancing diversity, inclusion and racial equity, supporting our ability to define and measure outcomes, improving our existing statistics and embedding learning and development in all areas of our work.


    This position serves as a member of the Library's Senior Leadership team and will be initially be based at the Ridgedale Library in Minnetonka.

    The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include:
    Implement and provide leadership for HCL's strategic priority to build a more diverse and inclusive staff and library environment
    Design, consult and partner with various divisions, project teams, work units and individuals to integrate strategies for furthering and embedding diversity, inclusiveness and racial equity throughout HCL and to ensure internal and external messages on all communication channels are consistently inclusive and welcoming to all
    Lead and manage diversity, inclusion and racial equity projects and initiatives, including development and implementation of project plans, authoring proposals, identifying goals and objectives, tracking activities, projecting budgets and timelines
    Identify and lead opportunities for staff to participate on teams, projects and other work related to the areas of diversity, inclusion and racial equity, providing work direction as appropriate
    Develop and lead a comprehensive strategy to increase HCL's organizational cultural competence through staff development opportunities in partnership with Hennepin County's Office of Diversity and Inclusion and HCL's internal Learning and Development consultant
    Provide ongoing coaching to staff at all levels to support development of knowledge, skills and abilities needed to meet diversity, inclusion and racial equity goals
    Provide diversity, inclusion and racial equity subject matter consulting and leadership coaching to HCL leaders to further strategies that align with county and Library goals, mission and core values
    Develop and track metrics of progress and change for reporting purposes
    Provide consultation on cross-cultural and intercultural effectiveness and appropriateness of county and Library policies
    Represent HCL and Hennepin County on a variety of internal committees and external groups


    Best Qualified Candidates will have:
    One of the following:
    A bachelor's degree or higher in education, leadership, business, public administration, organizational development, business administration, library science or a related field and five years or more of administrative experience in diversity and inclusion work
    Note: Experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis
    Solid knowledge of current practices and trends regarding diversity and inclusion in the workplace and awareness of demographic trends of the nation, state and county
    Exceptional interpersonal skills with experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams by developing participatory processes, facilitating conflict and consensus and presenting and conveying issues and/or complex information to audiences at many levels
    Excellent skills in demonstrating and delivering solution-oriented strategies, critical thinking, judgment, interpersonal communication, team building, tact, diplomacy and decision making skills
    Experience providing internal organizational development and culture change consulting services and demonstrated ability and commitment to incremental change and strategic risk-taking within large systems in the areas of diversity, inclusion and racial equity
    Strong analytical and organizational skills with ability to handle multiple, complex projects, recognize priorities and meet deadlines
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
    Ability to maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization and to work collaboratively with individuals and groups, building and nurturing collaborative relationships with a variety of customers and partners, both internal and external
    Advanced skill in a variety of computer applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, and Skype for Business
