POSITION: Humanities Librarian, Research & Instructional Services

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an experienced, innovative, and user-oriented Humanities Librarian with a Western European focus who combines a solid grounding in traditional humanities librarianship with a vision of future possibilities in humanities and interdisciplinary library services.
The Humanities Librarian will serve as the liaison to designated departments and centers determined by the successful candidate’s expertise. The Humanities Librarian will provide research consultations, offer innovative instruction and course development support, and, in collaboration with the Digital Scholarship Librarian and the Research Hub staff, facilitate digital scholarship projects. The Humanities Librarian will collaboratively develop collections in all formats in designated subjects, serve on the Arts & Humanities collection development team, and advance strategic cooperation with other libraries in the Triangle Research Libraries Network. The successful candidate will build strong partnerships and deepen engagement with faculty, staff, students, community members, and other scholars across disciplines. In collaboration with the Scholarly Communications Officer, the successful candidate will increase campus awareness of scholarly communication, copyright, and authors’ rights issues. The successful candidate will actively develop regional, national, and international partnerships and collaborations to advance the strategic directions of the Libraries.
The Humanities Librarian will join an energetic and service-oriented Research and Instructional Services Department that supports teaching, learning, and research in the humanities, social sciences, and the arts. Librarians in the department work collaboratively and across disciplines to apply user-centered techniques and practices in delivering instruction and reference services and should be prepared to participate in scholarly research and professional activities. As a member of the Research and Instructional Services Department, the successful candidate will contribute to library-wide initiatives by serving on library and campus committees, through participation in strategic planning activities, and through close cooperation with other library units.
REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program, or related advanced degree.
- Strong background in the humanities and humanities information sources, and familiarity with scholarship trends, including digital humanities tools and methods.
- Minimum three years of relevant work experience.
- Advanced knowledge of at least one Western European language.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to excel in a dynamic, collaborative, team-based environment.
- Strong commitment to user-centered services.
- Experience with classroom teaching, training, or library instruction.
PREFERRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of German or French.
- Reading or bibliographic knowledge of additional languages.
- Advanced degree in a humanities discipline.
- Coursework in Medieval and Early Modern Studies, Religious Studies, German, French, Italian, Classics, and/or Philosophy.
- Successful experience in fund-raising, donor relations, and/or grant-writing.
- Collection development experience.

Salary and Benefits
This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment; salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Standard state benefits of annual leave, sick leave, and State or optional retirement plan.
