LITA Women in Information Technology Interest Group Community
Greetings to all interested LITA and ALA members:
The inaugural meeting of the LITA Women in Information Technology Interest Group will be held at ALA Annual in Orlando on Saturday, June 25th at 4:30pm at Orange County Convention Center, Room W307C
The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss what we want to do with this group.
The charge, as approved by the LITA Board in the spring of 2016, is "To provide a forum and support network for individuals of all genders who are interested in issues and opportunities related to women in information technology fields. Programs and discussions will focus on mentoring, leadership development, and related topics."
That gives us a lot of latitude in deciding whether we want to use this space as a discussion space, develop and/or sponsor programming, identify continuing education topics and resources, etc.
You do not have to be a LITA member to attend the meetings or join in discussions. Many women working in the information/library technology field have expressed frustrations and challenges that are linked to perceptions of gender. This discussion space is intended to provide a safe haven for constructive sharing of challenges and solutions.
Hope to see you there.
