    Position Title: Librarian/Specialist, Research and Learning


    Department: The University of Arizona Libraries (UAL)/Arizona Health Sciences Center Library (UAHSL), (Dept. 6804)


    Classification: Appointed Professional, Full-Time; Exempt; Permanent Work Schedule: 40 Hours; Monday - Friday


    Location: Arizona Health Sciences Campus, Tucson


    Position Summary:


    The University of Arizona Libraries (UAL) seeks a talented, energetic and proactive Librarian/Specialist, who thrives in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. Title and eligibility for assignment to a continuing-eligible or year-to-year appointment will depend on the degree of the successful candidate.


    The successful candidate will be a member of the University of Arizona Health Sciences Library (UAHSL), Research and Learning Department, with liaison responsibilities focusing on faculty and researchers affiliated with the University of Arizona Cancer Center. Liaison librarians serve as a critical conduit for communications between academic units and UAL, facilitating the integration of expert services and salient information resources into the workflows of faculty and researchers.


    The incumbent shall also be a member of the Libraries' Business Intelligence Unit, a dynamic group supporting the licensing and commercialization of University innovation and intellectual property. This position will focus on research in pharmaceutical pipelines, medical devices, health sciences, patents and related areas of research and discovery, with a focus on medical devices, drug discovery and biomedical research.


    This position also provides literature research conducted in medical, patent, scientific, business and biomedical databases in support of the University's extensive network of biomedical research centers, including the University of Arizona Cancer Center. The University of Arizona Libraries provide a wide range of health-related research across all disciplines, including expert search services, support of grant sponsored research and consultation with faculty and scientists.


    The incumbent reports to the Sandra Kramer, Assistant Director for Research and Learning, UAHSL, and routinely works in partnership with peers in the University of Arizona Main Library Research and Learning Department.

    Duties & Responsibilities:


    . Cultivate strong relationships with faculty, staff and researchers in assigned areas.


    . Seek out opportunities to support grant-funded research on the University of Arizona campuses, with a strong focus on the University of Arizona Cancer Center.


    . Assess needs and provide front-line assistance and consultation across all research services.


    . Search across many databases in the fields of patents, business, market research, medicine, pharmacology, pharmaceutical pipelines, medical devices, competitive intelligence and general academic content.


    . Compile and organize information obtained in research projects into coherent, focused collections of information, accompanied by explanatory notes so that the material is readily understood by the client.


    . Participate in teleconferences and meetings as a member of the Business Intelligence Unit with our client, Tech Launch Arizona.


    . Contribute to the Business Intelligence Unit's team functions and tasks, enabling the group to accomplish its goals in effective and efficient ways.


    . Support the scholarly publishing of faculty, graduate students and researchers of the University of Arizona.


    . Serve as a resource to other librarians in the areas of patents, pharmaceutical pipeline, competitive intelligence, medical devices and market research.


    . Maintain familiarity with the Libraries information resources, in particular its research databases and health sciences collection.


    . Develop and deliver effective and efficient instructional services, as needed.


    . Track new and emerging information resources within assigned subject areas.


    . Advance the Libraries' and University's strategic initiatives and priorities.


    . If hired in the librarian, continuing-eligible track position, this position actively contributes to the library profession through research, service and scholarship, and engages in faculty governance of the Libraries and the University through service in the Library Faculty Assembly and on appropriate University committees. As a faculty member, this individual will help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, increasing diversity, and expanding collaborations with community and business partners.


    Minimum Qualifications:


    . Master's degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution or relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry.


    . Excellent interpersonal skills.


    . Ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment.


    . Strong written and verbal communications skills.


    . Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with the appropriate discretion.


    . Experience searching multiple health sciences/pharmaceutical databases.


    . Ability to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines.


    . Demonstrated knowledge of business functions; ability to evaluate and identify potential technologies for licensing and commercialization.


    Preferred Qualifications:


    . Experience in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry.


    . Experience conducting business, patent, market research, competitive intelligence research.


    . Experience in supporting research scientists or university faculty throughout the research life cycle.


    . Ability to identify opportunities and capitalize on them.


    . Ability to advocate, influence others.
