Description: Announcing an ACRL Digital Scholarship Centers Interest Group Meeting

While there is a general understanding of what happens in Digital Scholarship Centers and the services they provide to the institution, based on conference presentations, webinars and other discussions of these Centers, there appears to be less consensus on what to call them. What is the right combination of words that will best connect with the user community and get them engaged with the Center? In some cases, the service offerings are more focused and wonder how should that impact naming. For the DSCIG spring meeting we’ve invited two colleagues, who don’t call their operation a Digital Scholarship Center, to have a conversation about the commonalities among these research and learning spaces and the services and expertise they offer. It’s part of our continuing exploration of the role of the DSC.

Justin Schell is Learning Design Specialist at the University of Michigan Library, where he is leading the development of the Shapiro Design Lab.

Bryan Sinclair is Associate Dean, Public Services at Georgia State University Library, where he was project lead on the building of CURVE: Collaborative University Research & Visualization Environment. His interests are in collaborative research and discovery spaces, data services, digital scholarship, and exploring new roles for librarians.

Meris Mandernach is Associate Professor and Head of Research Services at Ohio State University, where they just opened a Research Commons to support interdisciplinary research.
