The mission of the New Members Round Table (NMRT) is to help those who have been association members less than ten years become actively involved in the association and the profession.
Learn more about NMRT on the ALA website.
The committee plans a meeting or program held during the Annual Conference. The program introduces members to current library issues, new trends, and technologies. The membership meeting presents progress, activities and plans for NMRT projects and offers an opportunity for member discussion and input. During the meeting and program, the Shirley Olofson Membership Award is also presented, by the same-named Committee.
The Membership Meeting Committee was established in 1977- 1978. The responsibilities of this Committee were formerly performed by the Committee on Governance. NMRT must hold a membership meeting each year; the existence of a program is determined by the NMRT President. The 2001/2002 Committee started holding monthly discussion on pre-set topics on the NMRT-L listserv. These discussions are archived.
