Committee Charge

The NMRT Web Committee serves as the NMRT Web site manager and the liaison to ALA's Web staff. The Committee's responsibilities include developing and recommending editorial policies, procedures, and guidelines for publishing and disseminating information on the NMRT Web site; making recommendations to improve content, organization, design, and enhancements that will meet the needs of members; and maintaining the Web site by adding submitted pages and modifying existing pages according to established guidelines.

History of the Committee

The Web Committee was formed in the year 2000. It had previously been a portion of the charge for the Publicity Committee. They post all the items from other various committees to the ALA Content Management System.

Committee Composition and Term(s) of Office

There is a Chairperson for the committee who is appointed by the president for a year term. An Assistant Chair is also appointed who agrees to serve as Chair the following year. Other committee members are appointed as needed.

NMRT Secretary

Committee Purpose

To liaise with the ALA web services staff and to load the NMRT web pages.

Major responsibilities

The uploading and maintenance of all NMRT web pages. Interactions with a liaison from all other NMRT committees allows this procedure to be a continual process.

Procedures Used to Accomplish Major Responsibilities

All committee members should be trained on the ALA Content Management System. The Chair and Assistant Chair will have final say in how the web pages should look, but all committee members will have access rights to certain areas of the NMRT website for uploading.

Contact People for Accomplishing Committee Objectives

The ALA Web Development Manager, the NMRT-ALA liaison, and a liaison from each NMRT committee are all essential contact points for completing the objectives of this committee.

Reminders and Helpful Hints

Delegation of tasks is key for this committee to function properly. If there are enough committee members, it is recommended to divide the committee into pairs and assign each pair to liaise with a single NMRT Director (and all committees under that director) as well as a Board member (and all committees under that Board member). Another committee member (usually the chair or co-chairs) is also assigned to manage all general NMRT administrative web pages that do not fall under a committee.

Reports and Dates for Submitting Reports

Reports are submitted to the NMRT Board at Midwinter and Annual. Additional reports submitted as needed or when requested by the Board.

General Timetable of Activities

This committee's work is ongoing and continuous. The workload for this committee fluctuates with the deadlines for other committees which require website changes due to deadlines and publicity functions. Prior to ALA Midwinter and Annual meetings, the web committee will experience a surge in activity.

Shortly after committee assignments have been made, the committee chair(s) should send out an email to all NMRT Directors and committee chairs to introduce themselves and point them to procedures for submission on the Web Committee webpage.
