The RUSA Shared Collections Interest Group is hosting a Twitter chat on May 13, 2016, beginning at noon EST. Join the conversation by using the hashtag #RUSASCIG. We hope you will drop in and share your thoughts!

Possible topics of discussion include:

  • What type of programs/topics would you like us to focus our time on at ALA Annual and in the future?
  • What will be the biggest issue the next five years related to sharing of collections for your library or libraries in a broader sense?
  • How are you "selling" shared print to your communities? Are you actively promoting them and if so, how? What great ideas do you have to share?
  • Occasionally the biggest confusions surrounding shared collections come from within the library community. How do we help our  colleagues discuss shared collections?

The RUSA Shared Collections Interest Group will meet in person at ALA Annual, Saturday, June 25, 1-2:30pm, in Orange County Convention Center Room W240D.

Discussion Shared collection development

by Robert Kelshian on Tue, Apr 26, 2016 at 03:08 pm

Hello All,

Like Jennifer, I'm also a member of the WRLC and we're really just starting to explore shared purchasing of materials - one project idea is for a shared print approval plan - and I'm curious as to how other consortia handle this?  Who "owns" the materials and what OCLC symbol do the items receive?  Where do the items live?  Just trying to see how others handle these basics.

Thanks and best,

Rob

Discussion Reaching out....

by Jennifer Boettcher on Thu, Feb 18, 2016 at 05:04 pm

What a great idea, I'm also a member of CODES

Do you have a hashtag yet?

I'm in a group of business librarians in DC (we are part of the WRLC consortium) and we are noticing that we are shifting to ebooks, since so many of out programs are going online.  We want to have at least one print book between us so we can ILL.  How deep should our survey be to have people commit to collect:

A) at the general topic (marketing, finance, etc) or

B) Call number range or

C) Subject heading?
