OSSIG Sponsored events at ALA in San Francisco

The LITA Open Source Systems Interest Group is sponsoring or two events at the upcoming ALA annual conference. Please join us!

Open Source: View from the Top (sponsor)
Sunday, June 28, 2015 - 10:30am to 11:30am
Moscone Convention Center 2024 (W)

What administrator doesn't like more control - over budgets, service and the future of their library? Open source software can deliver all that, controlling cost and funding improvements that will make a difference for your users, while safeguarding investments in automation and providing a more stable future. A panel will present the administrators' view, how and why they decided to adopt it, and how using open source systems has changed their libraries for the better. The open source library solutions of today have grown up a lot in the past few years and the administrators will tell you how. Panelists include: Ronald A. Gagnon, Executive Director, North of Boston Library Exchange (on using the Evergreen ILS); Tricia Racke Bengel, Associate Director of Nashville Public Library, TN (on using VuFind “Pika” by the Marmot Library Network); and Gregory Mickells, Library Director, Madison Public Library, WI (on using the LibLime Koha ILS)

Open Source Software & Technical Services: Kuali OLE, GOKb, and VuFind (co-sponsor)
Monday, June 29, 2015 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm
Moscone Convention Center 2022 (W)

Can technical services librarians influence library system development? In the open-source and community-source projects, such as Kuali OLE (Open Library Environment), GOKb (Global Open Knowledgebase) and VuFind, technical services librarians play lead roles in design, specifying, prioritizing, testing and implementing new software. This program will focus on the technical services librarian participation in these projects, and will show some of the technical services functionality of these products. Presenters include: Speaker: Beth Picknally Camden, Goldstein Director of Information Processing, University of Pennsylvania Libraries, Speaker: Kristen Wilson, Associate Head of Acquisitions and Discovery, North Carolina State University Libraries, Speaker: Kristin Martin, Electronic Resources Management Librarian, The University of Chicago Library, Speaker: Lisa McColl, Cataloging/Metadata Librarian, Lehigh University
