College and Research Libraries Interest Group

The College and Research Libraries Interest Group is hosting two speakers to present on, “Open Classrooms, Open Libraries: Academic library services supporting the creation and use of open education resources.” Sarah Faye Cohen, Managing Director of the Open Textbook Network, will discuss the Open Textbook Network, a consortium of institutions working to help faculty overcome the barriers to adoption of open textbooks, increase institutional capacity to support faculty adoption and use of open textbooks, and collaboratively develop new understandings and best practices of open textbook adoption and use. Beth Turtle, Scholarly Communications librarian at Kansas State University Libraries, will present on the Libraries’ Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative, a program awarding stipends to faculty for the development of open alternatives to the traditional print textbook. To date over $150,000 has been awarded, with in impact of nearly $1 million in savings for over 12,000 students in 32 courses.
