Internet Filtering: Ist of Four Proposed Interpretations of the Library Fill of Rights

Apr 29, 2015 10:11 AM

Colleagues,

Here is the latest draft of the Internet Filtering Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights.  The major changes from the last version are 1) the addition of substantial treatment of schools and school libraries and 2) a general reorganization of the text.  Please "reply" in ALA Connect with your comments and suggestions and the IFC will do another round of revisions as needed before San Francisco.

Thanks very much,

Doug Archer

Chair, ALA IFC

Library Entry Comments

Having recently been part of a decision to apply content filtering, I read just about everything I could find. This document does a great job in summarizing the complexity of the questions relating to filtering. Well done.

Pretty much what Denise said. I think libraries and policymakers willing to listen will find the background information helpful.

I like the way this is written. The last paragraph clarifies ALA's stance without diluting the interpretation.
