2015 Affiliate Assembly Concerns and Commendations

This is a friendly reminder that the Affiliate Assembly Concerns and Commendations process is now underway.

The deadline for states to submit statements of concern or commendation to Regional Representatives is May 15, 2015. The correct forms for submission can be found on the AASL website here: http://www.ala.org/aasl/working-with#affils. An overview of the concern process, along with a database of all past concerns approved since 2005, can be found here: http://www.ala.org/aasl/about/affils/concerns. The commendation process overview is here: http://www.ala.org/aasl/about/affils/commend.

I encourage everyone who is interested in submitting a concern or commendation to work collaboratively with their Regional Representative, and other leaders in their sate, to ensure that the most relevant submissions are going forward. As you work on your concerns, some questions to ask are:

    • Has this concern been address by the Affiliate Assembly in recent history? (please utilize the Concerns database referenced in the link above)

    • Is this concern “doable” by AASL Headquarters and/or the AASL Board of Directors?

    • Is this concern an issue that needs to go through the formal Concern and Commendation process in order to be addressed?

The 2015 Concerns and Commendations will be discussed and voted on at ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco. If you have questions about the process, please contact me at jashley@ala.org.

    Thank you!
