LITA HoLT IG program for ALA Annual in June, 2015

Title: Data-Driven Libraries: Capturing Users’ Behavior across Library Platforms

Description: Libraries are seeking solutions to track how patrons interact with libraries web resources to build data-driven services. The hard part is trying to capture users’ interaction across platforms (library discovery interface, library catalogs, subject databases, and others like social media). The LITA HoLT interest group will assemble a panel to discuss technologies and best practices to capture user’s interaction with web platforms, visualize the data in various ways.

Digital Preservation: Institutional Limitations and Solutions (15 minutes)

Patrick Roth, Grand Valley State University

There can be many roadblocks to starting a digital preservation program. These can include money, infrastructure, and staffing. In GVSUs case it was lack of infrastructure and lack of staff time. These limitations limited the solutions that we would be able to implement. This presentation will give a quick overview of the situation GVSU found itself in when it was decided to start a digital preservation program, how we decided on a preservation system, where we are today, and future plans.

Implementing a library reading list tool in a Learning Management System (LMS)  (15 minutes)

Eric Frierson, EBSCO Information Services

Digital textbooks, social media, video content. It seems as if instructors are moving everything into online and hybrid classrooms except for the resources of the library! How can librarians bring the world of quality databases, eBooks, and other digital resources from the library’s discovery system easily and directly into the online learning environment?
This presentation will showcase how a discovery plug-in for learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Sakai, Canvas) adds unprecedented functionality for online course instructors: the ability to create reading lists of library materials without ever having to leave the course site. The plug-in allows instructors to create library reading lists without grappling with permalinks, proxy prefixes, or PDFs, leveraging the value of the library discovery system in a frictionless environment.

Standardizing Web Analytics

Robert Nunez, Marquette University

Description: Using a combination of Google tools, the Marquette Libraries has been able to standardize their web analytics across multiple web platforms. Making it easier to interpret, analyze, and visualize the information provided within Google Universal Analytics. This presentation will take a quick look at Google Tag manager, how it can be used by non-developers, and how we have used the initial sets of data to make changes to the website.
