We've been lending board games for one-week checkout at my library for about a year. I know of a handful of others that do this or are in the process of beginning this service. If your library (or one that you know of) circulates board games, let me know. I am compiling a list that I'll be updating on Tumblr. When trying something like this that seems to have some risk built into it (i.e., "Won't people lose all the pieces?"), I've found that it's helpful to know that there are others who have done it and that I can reach out to them with questions.

You can respond here on the forum, contact me via Twitter (@pjbntly), or email me at pjbentley@gmail.com.

    Thanks!

We have been circulating games at a systemic level for the last 6 years. Our resources go out to teachers and librarians in the districts that we service though, not home with patrons and students. Still, while the use is frequent and at times unsupervised depending on the use, we have had minimal issues with loss. When it does occur, the publishers have often been helpful, or we repurpose that copy of the game to become the parts copy for the rest.

When I worked at DigiPen Institute of Technology, I collected a number of board and card games and we circulated them. You might want to contact the current libarian there to see if she is continuing this service. We even let a public library borrow some of our game consoles for their "Gaming in the Library" event.

We also check out toys and games through our Children's Services department. It is an excellent and popular service.
