Report Summer 2014

During the past six months, the Newsletter Committee has undergone big changes. First, it morphed into the News Committee because of GLBTRT Executive Board action that separated the news and the media reviews. This divided the Newsletter Committee into two separate committees: News and Reviews. With the initiation of the News Committee came GLBT News in January. This is a website through Wordpress that allows weekly entries of round table, library, and national/international LGBT news of interest to members. A weekly feature is a profile, complete with one or two photographs, of GLBTRT members.

Currently, the website has 105 subscribers. We invite everyone to join. Just go to http://www.glbtrt.ala.org/news/ and type your email on the right side under “Subscribe to GLBT News.”

Mack Freeman will be the News Committee chair for 2014-2015. With his six members, he plans to assign each member for a section of the website, provide monthly digests of the “GLBT News Best” to be sent to the round table e-list, and add more original content.

After three and a half years chairing this committee—including three years editing the round table newsletter—I am leaving for another wonderful GLBTRT venture, chairing the new Reviews Committee. I would like to thank these people:

  • Mack Freeman for developing GLBT News, posting materials, and writing articles.
  • Tess Goldwasser for her hard work in interviewing members and writing their profiles.
  • Jenna Goodall for searching out news and preparing columns.
  • Past Action Councils, the current Executive Boards, and GLBTRT chairs for their faith in my work.
