From:  Sheryl Knab, Facilitator, Consortium Management Discussion Special Interest Group

The ASCLA-ICAN Consortium Management Special Interest Group is meeting at ALA:  Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Convention Center room N101. This year’s theme is demand driven services. Please plan on sharing what you are doing at your system or consortium.  Our main speaker is: Cara Orban from MontanaLibrary2Go. I will provide an update on New York’s pilot projects for both ebooks and video streaming.

Sharing Resources and Responsibilities in Montana

ABSTRACT: MontanaLibrary2Go is Montana’s ebooks consortium, which is partially funded through LSTA and partially through membership dues. Like its funding structure, this consortium relies on an administrative balance between the State Library and a dedicated, active membership, which is mostly comprised of relatively small, rural libraries. In this brief presentation, I will describe how the Montana State Library administers this and other, similar consortia, and what roles the members play in advising and inspiring new directions for these projects and programs.

About: Cara Orban is the Statewide Projects Librarian and LSTA Coordinator at Montana State Library. In this position, she manages statewide and consortial pilots, projects, and programs that enable Montana libraries of all types and sizes to share resources and services.

We also need to talk about the future of this group and if we want to meet outside of ALA Annual.  I look forward to seeing everyone!
