Faceted Subject Access Interest Group
4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, US/Pacific
The Faceted Subject Access Interest Group will have a presentation on Cornell University’s use of FAST headings throughout its catalog. In early 2014, Cornell began a project to add FAST headings to its entire catalog with the goal of offering FAST-based facets in its Blacklight discovery system. Concurrently it began a pilot to use FAST as a means of providing controlled subject access for its minimal-level MARC cataloging. Both projects were undertaken in close collaboration with the OCLC Office of Research. This talk will outline the objectives of the project, progress so far, and the issues it has raised both from the cataloging and discovery points of view.
The speakers will be Chiat Naun Chew, Director of Cataloging and Metadata Services, and Steven Folsom, Discovery Metadata Librarian, Cornell University Library.
