We will be moving forward with creating a Literary Portal for ALA, targeted at both members and the public. John Amundson has brought together resources and links to start our work on the Literary Portal which should be a good place to begin our planning. Michelle Washington has met with internal division stakeholders on ALA staff to bring them up to speed and gather their thoughts as we move forward with pulling together the Literacy Portal, which will be a strengthening of our current, admittedly threadbare Literacy landing page - http://www.ala.org/advocacy/literacy. To give you a better visualization of what John imagines the Literacy Portal shaping up to be, check out the OLOS adult literacy page under “Issues Briefs” on the attached wireframe. The adult literacy page is a model for what we envision the portal becoming – although the page would be much more comprehensive.
Please think about the many literary resources in ALA divisions with which you are associated that are not already included.
It has also been suggested that our committee write a resolution on new literacies to accompany the resolution on basic literacy which was passed at Annual (also attached).
