sticky posts

Is there, or can there be, a way to make sticky posts in Connect groups?  I'd like to have one at the top of the interest group I chair as a "welcome, newcomers" thing to make it easier for them to get involved, but I don't see any options for so doing.  Thanks!

Hi, Andromeda --

If you look in the "Publishing Options" at the bottom of the form, you should see a checkbox to make the post sticky so that it stays at the top of the home page. If you don't see that option, please let me know the URL of the group so that we can troubleshoot it.

Thanks,
Jenny

The only option provided there is a checkbox for "published", checked by default.  This was in http://connect.ala.org/node/167971 .

Hi, Andromeda --

After investigating for a while, I realized that the reason you're not seeing the "make this post sticky" option is because you're not a community admin, and this is an admin privilege. You could either ask an admin to make it sticky for you by editing the node, or if you're a convener, you could ask one of the staff liaisons to make you a community admin.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have further questions about any of this.

Is there a good reason for chairs not to be admins of their committee/IG Connect groups automatically?

For those groups where the roster syncs with our member database, chairs are automatically made group admins in Connect.

Interest group rosters in Connect don't have a tie to the member database because that would mean staff would have to maintain the rosters there and members couldn't join interest groups on their own by just clicking the "join" button.

So it's up to each group's staff liaison(s) to add chairs as group admins in Connect. They have the ability to do that, so I'd suggest contacting them to ask that they do this.
