January Update for the HSIG

Jan 15, 2013 04:26 PM

Hello everyone,

Happy New Year to all of you!  I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits.

Since there is much emailing and planning for mid-winter right now, I wanted to remind you that the Health Science Interest Group will not be meeting in Seattle -- so you will not find us in the program.  There is planning going on however!!

First, Laura Friesen, current chair of the Events Committee, has recently posted this message about a social at the ACRL Conference in Indianapolis. If you are attending the conference this looks to be a very fun and interesting time.

HSIG has organized a tour of the Indiana Medical History Museum (http://www.imhm.org/) for 2:00 pm on Friday, April 12 during the upcoming ACRL conference in Indianapolis.  It will cost $7.00 per person, and transportation is yet to be determined, but we will send details as the conference time approaches.  Sign up here for some fun with fellow HSIG members at ACRL:

There are also plans underway for a combined program in Chicago with the Science and Technology Section titled “There's An App for That: The Use of Mobile Devices, Apps and Resources for Health and Sci-Tech Librarians and Their Users”. It is also sponsored by the Instruction Section.  It will be Monday morning July 1st 8:30-10:00 at McCormick Place. Please put it on your calendars.

Though time and room assignments have not been made for our Annual Business Meeting I can tell you that we will have as a part of our meeting a presentation by Karen Vargas on finding medical statistics. She will present her hour long program that will result in one MLA CE contact hour for all who attend.

Until then, please contact me with issues and ideas for the HSIG and we will build an agenda for the business meeting at annual or begin to address them virtually.

The best to you in 2013,

Sue Phelps, asphelps@vancouver.wsu.edu
