ALA Connect Statistics for FY12

I was asked to compile some statistics about ALA Connect for Fiscal Year 2012 (Sept 1, 2011 - Aug 31, 2012), so I thought I'd share the document here, too. Hi and thanks for the data!

Would it be possible to add % of active members of each unit for the year?
e.g. LITA had 3,502 active members out of ~4000 members -- that would give an ~87.5% Connect participation rate

(sorry to make more work - also, membership-of-unit could be a close estimate, if the actual numbers are unavailable - I'm looking more for overall pattern of use and less for exact measure of each user)

Thanks!

Heh, how should we define "Active" members?

  • 1 login per year?
  • >=5 logins between Annual/MW/Annual?
  • 10 logins per fiscal year?
  • 20 per year?

JFYI, we're currently defining "active" as someone who logs in and visits any page on Connect at least once during the specified period. Reports can be displayed for daily, weekly, monthly, or annual timeframes, so what I did was use the monthly figures to add up numbers for the fiscal year in question since "annual" is the calendar year.

Also, a reminder that any staff member can view and print out/take screenshots of these reports in order to share them with their members.

Sooooo, this is why I was careful to note that the numbers are not for "unique" users, which means the 87.5% figure isn't accurate.Those are aggregate logins, likely by many of the same members each month.

I'm attaching sscreenshot of the monthly percentage figures for divisions and round tables for FY12, but I don't know enough about statistics to figure out how to turn these into an aggregate number. I'm hoping someone else does.

Note that I also think it can be misleading to come up with totals because there are obvious spikes in January and June that throw off the curve.
