October chat: Navigating the Workplace as a Young Librarian
2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, US/Eastern
Entering your first professional position can be daunting, but being (much) younger than the majority of your colleagues can lead to uncertainty and anxiety. This chat will explore some of the ways that you can make the most out of being a young professional librarian. Topics to guide our discussion include but are not limited to finding a mentor, encouraging positive change at your library, conquering the library staff culture, and most importantly: commanding respect when you look like an undergraduate student. This chat is geared towards academic libraries, but the topics will generally apply to other types of libraries. Please come with your questions and be prepared for a fun and enlightening chat! Elyssa Sanner, ALCTS New Members Interest Group (ANMIG) Secretary, will be your host along with the assistance of Erin Boyd, ALCTS ANMIG Co-Chair elect. The chat will be on October 10th from 2:00pm - 3:00pm EST and is open to ALA members of all types. To join the chat: http://connect.ala.org/node/188396.
