July 30-AUG 6, 2012, Pre-vote discussion on formation of T.F. to revise the Info Lit Competency Standards for Higher Ed

This is a follow up to the update from the Information Literacy Standards Review Task Force that the Board received at Annual Conference. Attached is the request to create a task force to revice the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.

If you have questions/comments please post to the discussion thread.

Does the work of this Task Force report exclusively to the Board? I know the IL Standards Committee is hoping to oversee this work. Mary Jane has already made them aware that the Task Force may report directly to the Board, however I am wondering how the Standards Committee might interact with the Task Force and assist them with this work if they are not considered part of the reporting process. Maybe this discussion needs to happen later and is separate from whether or not the Task Force is created?

Great question, Julie. I do not think a Board task Force should report to a committee first but the committee should be involved/kept in the loop. One possibility would be to put a member of the Info Lit. Standards Comm. on the TF to keep the communication going. Would that address the concern?

Hi Mary Ellen,

I think it would help if the ILSC had a seat on the TF. That would address the concern.

I have added this suggestion to the Board action form that will be posted for a vote.
