Non-WWG members, please post your requests for modules/functionality here

If you're not a member of the Web Working Group, this discussion thread is where you can post a request for new Drupal modules and functionality for ala.org. Just add a comment to this thread with as much detail as possible.

The members of the WWG will work with ITTS to review the request, determine if there is a viable option, set a timeframe for implementation, and test new functionality.

Update: As of October 23, 2012, we've moved these discussions from the ALA Web Working Group to the ALA.org Drual Content Managers community, so please start new threads in the Wishlist (New Functionality Requests) discussion forum.

I need to be able to embed video using iframe, which I've been able to do since we migrated to Drupal... so maybe we already have this functionality.

Hi everyone! A couple of things -

- Lightbox: I previously asked for, and received, limited lightbox functionality to highlight images and text. It does work (see http://www.ala.org/emiert/coretta-scott-king-book-awards-illustrations-gallery), but to make this work, I have to use in-text tags such as [/fancybox] in the WYSIWYG editor, and to format the text in the Lightbox, I have to go into the HTML code and manually work it out in terms of line breaks, alignment, etc. What would be wonderful - and I'm not sure this is even an option - is if we could somehow integrate this functionality into the WYSIWYG editor, either as an option in the edit image window, or something so that line breaks and image alignment would be automatically sorted out.

- Image/Slideshow: I think it would be nice to be able to have a way to embed or feature slideshows in a window, such as a PowerPoint presentation.

- .pdf viewer: Is there a way of intergating a book-view or something along the lines of how the electronic version of the conference program guide is displayed?

That's all from me; have a great weekend!

There's a feature (click on Video Filter) in every WYSIWYG editor that allows the embedding of video. The instructions area list Slideshare as an option. Would this fulfill your need to embed slides? Please test it and let us know. I did a test of a YouTube video yesterday, and this functionality works fine.

Insert a 3rd party video from one of the following providers.

Audio attachments happen from the audio tab (in the left bottom series of tabs you have to go past to get to the Save button).

Should we do a brown bag to demonstrate these features?

AASL has been using a pro account through Issuu to create books of their PDF's. Here's a sample:

This is added through iframe.

I know I'm a member of WWG, but I was wondering if others might have a use for a blog?  I would find it to be useful when answering questions in the library. We used to post questions on our wiki, and now on AL, but it would be nice to have it as part of our Office or Professional Tools areas.

I would love to create a visually stunning, interactive timeline in honor of the 30th Anniversary of Banned Books Week. The interactive timeline would spotlight 30 banned/challenged books over the past 30 years. I created an example of what I would like to see happen at Tiki Toki. http://www.tiki-toki.com/timeline/entry/51787/Banned-Books-Week-Celebrating-30-Years-of-Liberating-Literature/#!date=1982-07-06_17:40:35!

The timeline I created is under the free account and cannot be embedded into our site unless we pay. We would be willing pay if Tiki-Toki can work with Drupal. If not, is there is a drupal module that can be utilized with the same type of functionality? We ideally would like to get this up by August 27.

Thanks!

That's a great way to tell the BBW story!  Could you post a link to the instructions for embedding the timeline in a web page?  I looked on their website, but without logging in, there's no obvious help section. Someone should be able to give you an answer.

Hi Dan, Thanks for checking out my timeline.  Sorry for the delayed response. I am not used to ALA Connect, yet. (YET!)

The free account, which I used to create the timeline, does not allow for embedding. The free account only allows for multiple timeline views; the ability to embed youtube and vimeo vids; share timeline with others. I think a work around to this issue is to take a screen capture of the timeline, create a jpg which will then link to the timeline. We are also considering getting an account that allows embedding. Below is the information on the type of accounts we can get and the options are not that costly.

Silver account

What a neat tool. I think there's a module with some of this functionality in Drupal, but will ahve to check if it's ready for Drupal 7.

I will contact your timeline vendor to ask if we can test embedding. I really can't imagine it wouldn't work, either with the iFrame option or possibly with the Video Filter tool.

Here's a link to an open source timeline that we might want to consider:

JFYI, Emerging Leaders Team J used it last year to create a timeline of ALA deadlines. It uses Simile Widgets, which is a "free, open-source data visualization web widget" for "visualizing temporal data." That's the extent of what I know about it, although the example at http://www.simile-widgets.org/timeline/examples/compact-painter/compact-painter.html implies that you could add images.

We embed a number of videos on the www.ilovelibraries.org website and up until now I have been doing so even in Drupal. Were permissions to do so taken away from content editors? I just planned to embed a few for an article I am posting tomorrow, but now am planning to take screen captures of the videos on You Tube and link out......I would for sure like to be able to do so in the future.

I was able to embed a Vimeo video using the iframe tag in Drupal as recently as last week Thursday.

Howdy! I would really love to customize the pages for ala.org/bbooks with this year's Banned Books Week art work. Is there a template I can use? If not, are design specs for a template available? Thanks!

Is there any way we could have SCAYT enabled as the default?

Jan L. Carmichael (staff)'s picture

There's a Webform add-on module that would be very useful, I think.

It adds functionality to select lists; when 'other' is selected a textfield appears for the user to provide a custom value.

Pretty widely adopted; installed on 12515 sites.
