Virtual Communities and Libraries MIG / ACRL Virtual Worlds Interest Group

When: Sunday, June 24, 2012 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm

Joint business meeting of the ACRL Virtual Worlds Interest Group and the ALA Virtual Communities and Libraries Member Initiative Group. Discussion will focus on ongoing projects and future plans.

Join us at the Anaheim Convention Center on Sunday, June 24, 4pm for the joint meeting of two ALA groups interested in virtual world librarianship or join us virtually in Second Life.  At our ALA meetings we connect via laptops to Second Life so we can see our colleagues in SL and they can hear our voice conversation in Anaheim.  Come and meet virtual friends and participate in planning future programs and events for the groups.

Our agenda includes:

ALA Virtual Communities and Libraries Member Interest Group

  • Updates and future plans, including the ALA site in Second Life, group organization and leadership, and meeting schedules for the next year

ACRL Virtual Worlds Interest Group

  • Welcome and introductions
  • Report on activities and update on the group
  • Future programs and events – we’d like to hear from you, we’re planning visits to other virtual world grids, and tours or programs about Second Life and  virtual worlds in an academic setting
  • Announcement for July program:  July 22, discussion with  Aaron Barlow & Robert Leston, authors of current book, Beyond the Blogoshpere: Information and Its
Children, to be held in Second Life.

To participate from Second Life, download a Second Life or (third party) viewer, create an avatar, and join the ACRL in SL group and we'll direct you to our meeting site.
