STS Hot Topics Discussion Group - ALA Annual 2012

Changing Roles for Sci-Tech Liaison Librarians in Research, Outreach & Instruction

Science & engineering subject specialists/liaisons are
encountering dramatic shifts in terms of assigned duties and roles, and in
terms of new expectations in the execution of the ‘traditional’ liaison roles.  Peter Larsen (Associate
Professor, University Library – University of Rhode Island, Physical Sciences
& Engineering Reference / Bibliographer)
will present the
results of a survey conducted by the STS Subject Librarian Task Force in 2011,
which was developed to help determine the scope of current and future work done
by sci-tech liaison librarians.  Elizabeth
Berman (Assistant Library Professor, Science & Engineering Librarian, University
of Vermont)
will present the findings of the ACRL Information
Literacy Standards Task Force, and implications of these findings for the
future of library instruction. A roundtable discussion will follow these presentations.  Discussion will be directed at helping us
collectively envision next steps and recommendations for action.
