Warning message

The launch of the new ALA Connect, scheduled for April 25, 2018, has been delayed due to technical issues. During final testing some critical issues related to navigation, tagging, and the structure of parent-child relationships were discovered.

The vendor is working to resolve these issues. We apologize for the delay and thank you for your patience.

While we're waiting to get started, please check out the resources and training on the support site. We'll keep you updated, in particular, we will communicate when we have a firm launch date.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Pam Akins, Community Engagement Specialist, at alaconnectmigration@ala.org.

Welcome to the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Interest Group

Looking forward to meeting and working with library colleagues in the field of SEO, SEM, metrics and assessment.   Let's use this Connect group to id & discuss issues, ask questions and to identify speakers, panel members or experts we'd like to see at ALA Annual 2012 in Anaheim.

Right now, the sparc-ir listserv has a discussion on search engine optimization for institutional repositories.

For DSpace, older versions of DSpace historically ranked low in Google Scholar results.  DSpace 1.07 and newer allows simple optimization by mapping to GoogleScholar fields.  An explanation of the mapping is here:  https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/Google+Scholar+Metadata+Mappings

BPress promotional materials heavily stress optimizing for Google Scholar, and historically it optimized better than DSpace, but there may not be a gap with newer versions of DSpace appropriately configured.  Good to know for any libraries running DSpace, so you can pass this along to IT and check that DSpace is configured well.

P.S.  How do I start a thread, instead of just posting onto one that already exists?
