ACRL Virtual Worlds Interest Group

The ACRL Virtual Worlds Interest Group (ACRL VWIG) met jointly with the ALA Virtual Communities and Libraries Member Interest Group (ALA VCL MIG) on Sunday January 22 during the Midwinter Conference.  While the "official" meeting site was at the Convention Center in Dallas, the meeting was joined simultaneouly by a group of 25 librarians represented by their avatars in the virtual world of Second Life.  I have posted a summary of our meeting here:  http://connect.ala.org/node/167014

In addition we have video (machinima) of the meeting om Second LIfe with voice, taken by Miguel Mimoso Correia (Clark Abismo in SL):  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ8bveIh330&feature=youtu.be

We also have recorded a chat log of the text chat from the meeting which I can share with anyone who might be interested in that.  Our groups met for a pre conference meeting, a strategy that helped prepare for a real life meeting in case our internet connections were not cooperating well enough for access.

Both the ACRL VWIG and the ALA VCL MIG are interested in expanding our presence within ALA and ACRL and we would be happy to provide Second Life mentors to any interested librarians.  We also have members who have experience in other virtual worlds.  Contact me if you are interested in our work in Second Life:  mlmeister@ucdavis.edu
