RE: ALA Financial Learning Series
You are invited to join BARC members at the ALA Finance Best Practices session to be held on Friday, January 20, 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in the Dallas Convention Center, Room D224.
There will be no prepared presentation for this session, since it has been scheduled to answer any questions you may have regarding the new ALA Financial Learning Series webinars, which are available on YouTube at:
These webinars are designed to increase your basic fiscal knowledge of ALA and provide some support in your role as financial representatives and member leaders. Topics include: Organizational Structure/Roles and Responsibilities, Operating Agreement, Budget Cycle/Process and the Long Term-Investment Fund. Specifically, you will learn about the intricacies of developing and analyzing the budget. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn about the Association’s financial and managerial resources, as well as where your Division or Round Table fits within the ALA financial planning activities.
I urge you to view these webinars, at your convenience, prior to Midwinter, so you can provide us with your feedback. We’d like to expand the webinar topics in the future and want to hear what would be of particular value to you. After viewing the webinars, if you have questions, feel free to send them to me at bohrercn at wblib.org. I will make sure they get addressed at the Friday afternoon workshop.
In addition to the Finance Best Practices, the Planning and Budget Assembly (PBA) session is scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:30 PM in the Convention Center, Room D165. PBA offers the best opportunity for representatives from ALA Council, the Divisions, Committees and Round Tables to participate in ALA’s annual planning process. The ALA Executive Board and the Budget Analysis and Review Committee (BARC) will lead the Assembly. The PBA meetings focus on a range of planning activities including reviews of environmental trends, discussions of business plans, and planning documents prepared by the Board. Your participation is needed to raise questions, take part in discussions, and offer suggestions to the Board and BARC.
