TOLD Committee info for MW 2012 in Dallas

Hi TOLD Committee Members,

We are now, of course, planning for ALA Midwinter in Dallas.  There are several things underway.

 1)      TOLD Committee MW meeting planning [2 documents attached]

Our Committee meeting at Midwinter will be from 8-10am on Friday, January 20, 2012, in the Omni Hotel, Oak Cliff 2 Room.  I have attached a draft agenda for our meeting – let me know if you think there are other things we need to discuss.  This will remain in draft form until probably the second week of January when it will be “finalized.” (Like a committee agenda is ever really final J.)  I have also attached the TOLD Annual Conference  Report from 2010 (couldn’t find one for 2011) which lists planned activities for the upcoming year – which would have been 2011.  Perhaps there are some ideas here we could revisit and/or discuss at our meeting.

2)      ALA Intern Orientation session planning [1 document attached]

Planning is underway for the ALA Intern Orientation session which will take place from 1:30-3:30pm on Friday, January 20, 2012, in the Omni Hotel, Trinity 3 Room.  For those of you who are new to TOLD, this is an orientation session for the interns who have been appointed to ALA-level committees and to ALA Council.  The session is intended to provide them with the background they need to understand ALA better as well as their roles as interns.  The TOLD Committee is the sponsor of the session, but most of the arrangements are made by Lorelle Swader, our Committee’s Staff Liaison.   As you can see by the attached draft agenda for that, it is a pretty standard orientation session.  We will talk more about it at our committee meeting on Friday morning, but planning for it seems well under control at this point.  Just so you know, you don’t need to attend the orientation as a participant, but it would make sense for some members of TOLD to attend since we are the sponsors.

3)      Guidelines for the ALA Intern Program [1 document attached]

Last year, TOLD was given the responsibility of revising the guidelines for the ALA Intern Program.  We did this and our previous chair took the revised guidelines to ALA Council as a resolution.  The guidelines were adopted by ALA at Annual in New Orleans and are now ready for distribution to the ALA-level Committee Chairs.  I have attached the guidelines and if there aren’t any questions about them before next Wednesday (Dec. 6th), then Lorelle will send them to the chairs.  These guidelines will also be provided to the interns and will be covered in the orientation session at Midwinter.

Lastly, I’m still looking for the minutes from our meeting at Annual 2011 in New Orleans.  Send them along if you have them.  Or if you have any meeting notes that you happened to take, please send those along as they would be helpful as well.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Dallas, but I’ll be in touch again before then.
