Goals for 2011-2012
- Make final review and publicize "Measuring and Assessing Reference Services and Resources: A Guide." Ellen shared the guide with two visitors to the ERUS table at Annual who were very interested in it.
- Plan discussion forum for Annual 2012. Potential topic: Assessment Tools such as READ Scale, WOREP, etc.
10/10/2011 - update
No progress to date on goals. Ellen shared with committee members only recently (with apologies for a busy start to the semester). Received feedback from member Jason Kruse that he agreed with the goals and thought assessment was a good topic for a discussion forum at Annual and was willing to help in any way.
4/18/12 - update
We had a productive virtual Midwinter meeting and made the following progress.
1. Final review has been done of Measuring and Assessing Reference Services and Resources: A Guide, and we agreed on which listservs to use to publicize and divided them among committee members. Ellen has delayed this by not getting wording to committee members. This is on my to-do list!
2. We agreed to hold a discussion forum for Annual 2012 on Assessment. Kate Silton has scheduled it for 6/24 in the 4-5:30 time slot with the following description:
As the number of reference statistics decline, librarians look to measure the value of reference interactions more qualitatively. The Wisconsin-Ohio Reference Evaluation Program (WOREP), the READ Scale (Reference Effort Assessment Data), and LibQual are among the tools that have been used. This discussion forum will address the how, why, and what of evaluation and assessment of reference. Participants will discuss how evaluation and assessment are being done and funded; why—what’s behind both librarians’ and administrators’ reasons for collecting this information; and the what—what is being collected, the workload, and the decisions being made with this data.
