SocialNOTWorking: Managing Social Networking in a Productive and Positive Workplace. Sheraton New Orleans, Napoleon Room A1-A3

Monday, June 27, 2011
10:30 am to 12:00 pm, US/Central

The huge growth of social networking sites has posed new challenges for libraries who are seeking to extend their brand and their reach into their communities. Integrating the use of social networking into the workplace requires finesse and trust. Different approaches sometimes blur the lines between the organization and the employees. Hear how an academic library and a public library have staked out their space.

At the end of this program, participants will be able to identify some of the difficulties in creating institutional policies about social networking for their workers; be aware of the advantages of using social networking sites to extend their brands; and be cognizant of some of the issues surrounding use of social networking sites in the workplace.

Our Speakers are:Lynette Schimpf, Orange County Library System, Orlando, FL and Brian Matthews, University of California, Santa Barbara.
