  • 1.  Do Members of the Awesome Round Table (GODORT) have resolutions to put before ALA Council?

    Posted May 17, 2011 01:22 PM

Are there any resolutions GODORT members would like ALA Council to take up in June?  Please contact me if you know of issues ALA should address.  The GODORT Legislation Committee does an excellent job of crafting resolutions and by starting before ALA's annual conference, the quality can be refined before Council meets.  As your councilor, I want to carry your concerns forward.

Of possible interest to GODORT members, Diedre Conkling's message to the ALA Council list links to a survey of ALA election participants.  The survey notes that only about 1/5 of ALA members voted and looks at the reasons given.  As 195 of about 917 GODORT members cast ballots for our round table's slate of candidates, our members participation rate is in line with the rest of the association.

I applaud the work of GODORT's Nominating Committee and hope that GODORT's members who chose not to vote weren't among the 75% of survey respondents who indicated "I was unfamiliar with the candidates" as their reason for not voting.
