The mission of the Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) is to provide a forum for discussion of activities, programs, and problems of instruction in the use of libraries; to contribute to the education and training of librarians for library instruction; to promote instruction in the use of libraries as an essential library service, and to serve as a channel of communication on library instruction between the ALA divisions, ALA and ACRL committees, state clearinghouses, Project LOEX, other organizations concerned with instruction in the use of libraries, and members of the Association.

    ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans

     

    Want to share how attending Immersion influenced your teaching practice or information literacy program? Consider submitting a proposal for a poster session for the “Bringing the Immersion Program Back Home” program at the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans.  The purpose of the poster sessions will be to provide an informal forum for the exchange of ideas, research, and practice related to the Immersion experience. Poster presenters will have 30 minutes to present following the 60 minute panel session.

     

    Application Procedure

    Poster sessions will be refereed by the Immersion Program Committee. We encourage alumni from all tracks and cohorts to participate. Keep in mind that refereed posters aid tenure track librarians with promotion and tenure.  

     

    Poster session topics might include but are not limited to:

    • How you applied your Immersion experience to transform your teaching and information literacy programs;
    • How you sustained momentum and enthusiasm when you got back from the Immersion program;
    • Significant learning experiences you gained from the program;
    • An example of an innovative class session you created and taught as a result of attending Immersion;
    • Demonstrating the impact of your Immersion participation on student learning outcomes (as measured by successful assessment strategies);
    • Leadership roles you have cultivated in your library and campus community as a result of participation in the Immersion Program.

     

    Poster session proposals should include:

            Name(s) of presenter(s) with contact information

            Poster title

            Learning outcome(s) for viewers

            Location(s) and year(s) and track(s) of Immersion Program attended

            Summary of poster content, including how you plan to interact with viewers (150-250 words)

     

    Criteria for refereed poster session acceptance include:

    • Originality, significance, and relevance of thetopic;
    • Well-formulated ideas that demonstrate individual development, creativity, and innovation in Information Literacy;
    • Contribution to Information Literacy research, theory, practice or policy;
    • Opportunities to interact with the viewers delineated;
    • Strength of learning outcomes presented in proposal.

    The deadline for submission is March 1, 2011. Peer review of submissions will be completed and notifications of acceptance will be sent on or before March 31, 2011.
