Event Social (GLBT RT)

Join GLBTRT members and supporters for a night of socializing and networking. The 2012 Stonewall Book Awards, Rainbow Project, and Over the Rainbow Book Lists will also be announced. Social will be held at the Dallas Public Library, J. Erik Jonsson Central Branch, 1515 Young Street, 4th Floor Gallery.

Event GLBTRT Steering Committee Meeting II

Committee Information

The Steering Committee consists of elected officers and appointed chairs of the standing committees. The Steering Committee may not make a decision inconsistent with a decision made by Round Table members at a membership meeting. The Steering Committee has general supervision of the affairs of the Round Table between its membership meetings; determines the times and places of the membership meetings; reviews and approves an annual budget; authorizes Round Table projects, activities, and publications that are not authorized at membership meetings; reviews new Round Table publications and determine price (if any) before it is published or distributed; makes recommendations to the Round Table membership; provides guidance to the Co-Chairs; and sets annual or longer-term goals for the Round Table.

The Rainbow Project is a joint project of the GLBT Round Table and the Social Responsibilities Round Table.  It creates an annual book list of recommended GLBTQ fiction and nonfiction titles for young readers from birth through age 18.

The Stonewall Book Awards Committee honors the best books of the year with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered themes. There is an award category for literature, non- fiction and children's books. Winning titles and honor books are announced at ALA Midwinter Meetings and the awards are presented at the Stonewall Book Award brunch at ALA Annual Conferences.

Event GLBTRT Over the Rainbow Committee Meeting II

Committee Information

Over the Rainbow Project is an expansion of the highly successful Rainbow Project.  Over the Rainbow Books is a bibliography that reflects the LGBT experience and is meant for general adult readers.  The project was proposed in February 2010 and was formally charged as a GLBTRT ad hoc committee by the GLBTRT Steering Committee in April 2010.  With a majority vote, the Steering Committee accepted the following documentation as submitted by the proposal group.  The committee's progress will be evaluated by the Steering Committee at ALA 2011 Annual Conference.

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table provides its members, other American Library Association divisions, members, and affiliates, and the library and information science field as a whole with a forum for discussion and an environment for education and learning regarding the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender professional community and population at large.
