Discussion ALA COO document handling

by James Rettig on Wed, Jun 11, 2014 at 02:01 pm

COO members (and followers, if COO has any!), please keep in mind that if you want to work from paper documents during the COO meetings in Las Vegas, please bring your own.  Paper copies will not be distributed at the meetings.

Kerri Price, our staff liaison, will post them here on Connect later today.

See you in Las Vegas (where the daily average high temperature for late June is 102 and average low is 74 ).

Discussion Lifespan of Membership Initiative Groups

by James Rettig on Sat, Jun 7, 2014 at 01:03 pm

The attached documents provide COO's history on the lifespan of Member Initiative Groups.  The cover sheet of the large PDF lists the documents in which COO has dealt with that issue.  The cover sheet also identifies key passages regarding MIG renewal periods and processes.

The shorter Word document is limited to the Guidelines and where they do and don't apear in the ALA Policy Manual; although one page on the ALA site implies that they are part of ALA policy.

This issue will be on the COO agenda in Las Vegas.  As the document show,  ideas have been proposed but apparently not acted on.

I think they key question is:  How do we help members do entrepreneurial things within ALA with as little bureaucracy as possible?

I will indeed be at the conference and look forward to our meetings.
